Left Bank Triathlon Event Report

It was a definate wetsuit swim for todays Left Bank triathlon - Race #1 of the WA Summer Series triathlon held by Stephen Doyle's Sports Performance.

It was a clear day, but there was just a definate nip in the air from the WNW breeze blowing in directly across the Swan River. Just enough to make things a little troublesome for the organisers setting up flags, tents, marquees etc. As a series sponsor, we were there to let people know about TraithlonOz.com and we must give a very big thank you to Sports Performance for the wonderful promotion over the microphones that encouraged people to come over to our marquee and sign up for our newsletter and have a chat etc.

Before the race, a surprising number of people were looking for bar ends for their bike. Please make sure you are aware that racing without end caps on your bars is not permitted at any races in Australia, and think about packing spares in your race bag to avoid disappointed. The race officials do not provide spares and there were no equipment stalls at today's race to help out those that were without.

After the race, some of the swimmers commented on being surprised by dolphins surfacing alongside them, and the little hill at the turnaround on each lap of the run raised a few comments but the entire event was very well organised.

Today's event covered 6 separate race options with a Junior Triathlon, Novice Triathlon Fun Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, and Sprint Duathlon, and Duathlon.

The upside of an early start (first wave 6.30am) is that the entire event was done and dusted by 9.30, including presentations.

Over 50 spot prizes were handed out to those that stayed for presentations and each competitor received a race bag as they crossed the finished.

To those that competeted, well done! Especially to those that came up and said hi. We really enjoyed meeting you all, and hope that you'll share your own race reports in the Forum.
