Pre race update:
During my last training ride on Friday morning I found that my bike computer had spat the dummy and was basically dead. So decided to head to the bike shop to get a new one after the kids ballet class on Saturday. Decided to give Joondalup Cycle City a shot for this new purchase as they had been good in the past. Needless to say I went in for a computer and after several hours came out with a new racing bike, computer and shoes. Thanks Rossco td105 for your helpfull service and advice (I found out that Ross was a member during my time in the shop).

So was I to race in a new bike that I had not yet ridden?

Yes I was so i rode home from the bike shop with some detours to get a bit of a feel of the new machine (14kms). It was not really enough but I could not take out the old bike when I had a nice new one that weights half the weight and has lastest technology equipment.

So race day arrives Michelle and the girls came down with me at 6:30. I registered and meet a few training buddys while we waited for the event to start.

I have only done about 5 weeks of swimming training doing about 1 - 1.5kms at a time every three days or so however I felt that I would do OK in the 750m swim - mid pack was my expectation.

Riding is my event 21km easy however I was on a new bike and was not familiar with it at all. This did slow me down a little and the transition times for both the swim to bike and bike to run are shown in the bike timing. I really enjoyed the bike section and maybe pushed it a little hard near the end. Anyway I was still very happy with the bike and will get many more rides completed before the Busselton half marathon in May.

Now the 5km run is not my event at all and I have not really trained much for it. Partly due to the knee playing up and partly due to a few killos of extra weight that I still need to get rid of. Anyway I had to complete it and apart from a few small power walks and a lot of huffing and puffing I finished the course.
