The Australia Day Triathlon at Point Water is an annual event. Having watched both Leah and David compete at this venue last year I had a pretty good idea of what to expect and it terrified me. Hence, I continued to keep the training up over the Christmas and New Year and avoid the usual festive indulgences. I'm glad I did, as I was able to enter the event at my lowest weight in 10 years (having lost 6kg) and undoubtedly my fittest. Unfortunately, 10 years older.

As I've previously blogged, I've only recently started competing and have only just built up to attempt the Sprint Distance Triathlon, which is 750m swim, 21km bike, 5km run.

The event organisers, and the competitors all know that the Point Walter course is the most hilly of the entire season, so what a way to start!

Anyway, my goal was to simply finish. Running is still my biggest struggle. I enjoy it, I love the training and run 3 times a week amongst 2-3 rides per week and 1-2 swims per week but I still am not fast enough. I have the new bike and have clocked up to 500km on it so far but have a lot more work to do to learn how to get faster. And swimming - I've always been told I am a strong swimmer but doing racing it has become apparent that that's not enough - I need to change my technique to improve a lot more if I wish to be competitive.

So, here's the pics and the results!

CATEGORY: FEMALE 40-44

SWIM: 20:16 Place: 3rd
BIKE: 51:38 Place: 4th
RUN: 31:39 Place: 7th
DIVISION PLACE: 6th

OVERAL EVENT POSITION: 66th (around 260 competitors).

Am I pleased? Yeah sort of. Can't wait for the next event on 14th February, - Hillary's Tri.

Some wish for it, others work for it!
