Information

The French whaling ship Perseverant washed ashore near here on 16 March 1841. The crew stayed 10 weeks - hence the name of this site as a "camp". Tragically, five of the crew died of scurvy whilst at this site. The survivors eventually set out for Java in four of the ship's smaller boats. Only one boat with crew survived the journey.

A designated campsite for travellers is nearby (Dampier's Landing Campsite). See separate listing for details.
