This circular outcrop was sighted and named by Larry Wells, Leader of the Calvert Expedition.
On the afternoon of Saturday 29th August, 1896, Wells climbed to the top of a
sandstone ridge a little to the south of his
campsite on a small claypan. Here he sighted and named Constance Headland, The Sir Fowell Headland, The Lady Victoria Group ( a group of three conspicuous hills) and the Russell Headland.
