Why did they call it Hell of the North? Well next year get on your bike and line up at the start ride the course and then you may know why. But if you have lower temps and less wind then it could be called "lovely day out in the hills". This was without doubt one of my hardest rides for a long time, I need to do a few 70.3 races to recover.

No really I suspect hitting a 135km hilly course one week after smashing myself in the Mainpeak race, coupled with lack of 100+ training my have something to do with it.

There are a few pluses for this BWA event:
1. They start at a respectable hour 9:30AM (ya no getting up at 3AM to get to the start)
2. They are well organized and well supported
3. They provide stacks of photos from the day that you can download FOC

There are a few negatives:
1. It does get hot in the middle of the day

There you go the pluses easily outweigh the negatives.

It was really a good day but was tough for me. I still managed to get 20th overall which considering for the last 25kms I was almost unable to cycle due to massive cramps in the upper quads. I was almost paralyzed from the cramps it hurt to pedal, it hurt to not pedal. But I knew if my feet touched the ground I would not get back on the bike so I pushed myself to the end. My usual spurt came back when I was about 6kms from the end as I knew I was going to make it and I managed a fast split over the last 5kms - maybe also because it was downhill.

Anyway it was a good day all round, Michelle and the girls played at the beach and had a great day also.

So here are my results, photos and the activity log from the day:

If it's not hurting your not tri'ing!
