Race two of the WA Trievents series was Championship Lakes Triathlon. This is a sprint distance event. Our 10yr old daughter Leah also competed in the "Tadpoles" event, which is a non-competetive event with no timing and shorter distances but they swim 100m, cycle 3km, and run 500m. This event started ahead of the adults race so parents could help the kids and cheer them on.

I had a good day, gaining my best placing so far in triathlon in age group (40-44 female) with a 6th place. This was my first race using my new Garmin Forerunner 310XT computer (thanks Santa) and unfortunately whilst all has been good in training, I happened to "break" the wristband just as I started out on the bike as I turned the face of the watch a bit on my wrist the tang-buckle sprung apart and I was lucky not to fall off the bike as I removed both hands from the tri-bars to catch it! I then had to solve where to put it for the rest of the race and was in such a panic going around a tight hairpin and through a crash barrier that the race marshalls told me to pull over and get off to sort it out - good advice! I put it in the back pocket of my tri-suit and lost about a minute? For the run I held it in my hand to ensure I could check my pace!

8th on swim leg, 6th on cycle leg, and 14th on run leg. The swimming and cycle is always much the same but the run is where I need to improve. This one was a good deal better than Race 1 Rockingham and enabled me to get into the top 10. Currently, I know my times are sufficient for 8th placings so I was very happy to get a 6th today!! Whoo hoo!! But still must get my run to 25mins.... clearly more pain required!

Swim 00:15:58
Cycle 00:42:50
Run 00:27:3
Finish: 01:26:26 - 6 in Category, 34 in Gender and 235 Overall
Some wish for it, others work for it!
