After my first competitive running event last weekend in the
Blackwood Marathon Relay I felt full of euphoria and somehow found myself keen to see how hard it would be to do a triathlon. The
events calender showed 3 days left to enter a triathlon at Challenge Stadium called
Triathlon Pink All Womens Triathlon today.
Unlike my husband, I am new to this, so I don't have a flash bike (yet) and I don't ride often (but I enjoy it when I do), and I don't swim much (have been doing a 1km swim once a week for about 4 weeks... but have been focussing on running for the past 6-7 months (I'm pretty hopeless) but I literally LOVE running and I am getting better (slowly). I'm told by hubby that the idea of triathlon is to actually "race" so although I can DO each of these legs on their own, it would be a
test of my resolve to see if I could survive the distance with no rest and most importantly, find out if I could enjoy it!
I entered the Medium Course Triathlon which was:
200m swim (
pool)
7km bike
2km run
Total Entrants: 233
Total in Age Category: 34
My results were rather encouraging:
My Placing in course: 31/233
My Placing in Age Category: 4/34
To get the 4th place in my category, I had the following splits:
Swim: 1st (yes, a first place, how did I do that?????)
Bike: 5th (that's ok I guess - I thought I did better though)
Run: 6th (pathetic... I was so tired I could hardly lift my feet.. mostly everyone else was walking so I had to do half-decent cause I ran it all).

I also entered Leah into the Kids Triathlon, which was:

Her results were:
Event: Kids
Total Entrants: 41
Mixed boys/girls up to 15yrs old
Leah's age 9 years old
Leah's Placing: 32/41
Which is a great stuff being mixed in with the older kids. She was very proud of the achievement of finishing though and that's the main thing.
We all got a medal, a Pinkies T-Shirt, a pink swimming cap, a drink bottle, sweat band, and other stuff in a sports bag to commerate our efforts. We also went into the draw for the series (drawn later in the year) to win an $8K bike! Wouldn't that be nice.
Overall, it was a fun day and I guess there may be more of the same to come... maybe?
